Titel: Atari PC file transfer.
Beitrag von: Mark am So 17.12.2023, 19:06:51
Is there a possibility to transfer files from an Atari PC to a more modern PC, with windows 10, over the serial port ?
I've a nul modem cable, but don't find programs for a proper communication.
I know INTERLNK/INTERSVR, but those works only in a dos environment.

Thinks in advance,
Mark

I know that people run the venerable Ghostlink under DOSBox on the PC: https://www.jamesfmackenzie.com/2016/02/06/use-rs232-serial-cable-and-ghostlink-to-transfer-files-from-pc-to-st/. Then there is the much newer https://github.com/z80andrew/SerialDisk. Still, you need a way to get the respective program to the Atari in the first place.

EDIT: The paragraph above applies to an Atari ST, not an Atari PC!

If your PC has a parallel port, or your Atari has an USB interface, you might also want to have a look at

Do you refer to an Atari PC (8088 or later, Intel) or an Atari ST (Motorola 68000, TOS)?

On the Windows side, use Hyperterm, ZOC, TeraTerm.

For the ST:

You’d still need a disk (floppy) to get some software onto the ST. Or a cartridge port/ACSI port harddisk, based on CompactFlash or SD card media.

For Atari PCs with MS-DOS/DR-DOS …:
… or Telix or Telemate …

If you need to "kickstart" the old PC, there’s a minimal Terminal software that you can enter in DEBUG (https://jannot.de/hacks/kleines-terminal-programm-fuer-dos/).

Ah, I have totally misread/overlooked that you wrote about an "Atari PC". Sorry! My advice applies to an Atari ST. Thank you, @gh-baden for pointing this out.

Thanks to all for the quick reply.
It indeed concerns an Atari PC1 with a  8088 processor, and DOS.

PS, On my 680x0 machines, I use the Netusbee with uip-tool.

Have a nice eventing,

Mark

I also have an Atari PC1 and use a CF card for data transfer.  I got an 8bit dual IDE card and also built a board for the special expansion port of the Atari PC1 with two 8bit slots).  I have a cf card on one port via ide2cf, where the system for the Atari PC1 is on it, and I communicate externally with the cf card on the second ide port.

From #12 onwards.

This doesn't answer your question about serial data transfer, but it works better and faster, and is also suitable for larger data.

Nice work  :)
I'll check it out after holidays, when I'm back home.
